Bakuchiol

Bakuchiol · from Psoralea corylifolia, the babchi plant

  • Renewal
  • Stabiliser
  • Gentle

Bakuchiol is a plant compound extracted and purified from the seeds and leaves of Psoralea corylifolia — the babchi plant of Ayurvedic tradition. It is not chemically related to vitamin A at all, yet it behaves remarkably like retinol in the skin, by a different and far gentler pathway. It is stable, oil-soluble, and not photosensitising — which is why it can work morning and night.

The work it performs

What it does

The stabiliser

Steadies the pure retinol molecule inside the Power Retinol trio, preventing the cascade behind retinoid irritation.

Renewal, gently

Delivers retinoid-like renewal on its own pathway — complementing retinol rather than duplicating it.

Antioxidant

A capable antioxidant in its own right, defending the formula and the skin.

Day and night

Not photosensitising and without retinol's adjustment period — the answer for skin that cannot tolerate a retinoid routine.

Soothing

Supports and calms the barrier, which is why it also appears in formulas that carry many actives at once.

In the cabin

Bakuchiol is the reason a therapist can deliver a full daily retinoid dose in a single cabin sitting — at 1% in the professional concentrate, it steadies 5,000 IU/g of pure retinol so the skin receives the strength without the storm.

The Power Retinol treatment

Handle with care

On its own, bakuchiol is the gentle option — morning and night, no adjustment period, no photosensitivity. The caveat worth remembering: a product that contains both bakuchiol and retinol follows retinol's rules, not bakuchiol's. Judge every formula by its retinol content; the presence of bakuchiol makes it kinder, not unconditional.
